Classifications and Handicaps

Handicaps and classifications are a good way to track your progress through the sport as you move from one round type to another. They also provide a reference for comparing archers who have not necessarily shot together before, and some competitions may refer to them for qualifications.

Indoor Classifications

Indoor Classification Badges

Indoor classifications recognise substained performance over the indoor season. They run from H up to A and are awarded for three witnessed scores achieved within one indoor season (starts 1st July).

The scores do not need to be achieved concurrently, but must come from the same season and be shot on witnessed rounds, including target days or official competitions, though the identity of the rounds can vary. Only one badge can be claimed per three rounds shot, though badges can be back-claimed. Multiple badges can be claimed per indoor season. Once achieved, a classification lasts for the duration of the subsequent indoor season during which it must be and must be claimed new each season.

Scores below refer to a Portsmouth round, scores for other rounds are available from the AGB table or the records officer. In addition to the scores provided by ArcheryGB for compound and recurve we provide what we believe to be equivalent scores for both barebow and longbow as well. These are calculated through a careful process in the same way as the CUB badge scores. For more information please contact Jack Atkinson.

Badges can be claimed from the records officer for £3. To claim, email the officer with the links to the relevant competition results or the three relevant scorecards, which must be dated and co-signed.

Outdoor Classifications

Outdoor Classification Badges

The outdoor classification scheme is provided by ArcheryGB, and recognises an archer’s substained performance over the outdoor season. They are awarded for 3 witnessed scores achieved within one outdoor season (calendar year).

The classifications start at 3rd Class, and run up through 2nd Class, 1st Class and Bowman. These can be claimed from the club records officer from three witnessed rounds shot on target days or at official competitions during the same season. Claims for the higher ranks of Master Bowman (MB) and Grand Master Bowman (GMB) must come from record status tournaments and are administered by ArcheryGB. Badges can be back-claimed and multiple classifications can be claimed per season, though scores may only be used once. Once achieved the classification lasts until the end of the next outdoor season in which must be either renewed or a new classification achieved.

Full scores can be found in the AGB provided table.

Badges can be claimed from the records officer for £3. To claim, email the officer with the links to the relevant competition results or the three relevant scorecards, which must be dated and co-signed.

Handicap

Handicaps provide archers with a great way to monitor both overall progress and performance over the season, and can be calculated for both indoors and outdoors. They also allow all archers to compete as equals by providing an allowance for each round.

By monitoring all officially scored rounds from competitions over a season you can calculate, track, and improve your handicap. It is important that you use every score to get a true reflection of your shooting and progress.

If you wish to take part in the handicap scheme please contact the club records officer.
