Training Sessions

The Archery year is split in to an indoor and an outdoor season. For us, the Indoor season runs from the start of the academic year in Michaelmas (October) until the end of Lent (March). After this we move outdoors for the duration of Easter term and the Easter and summer vacations.

Information about session times, locations, and dates for all of these time periods can be found below.

Michaelmas and Lent Terms

In Michaelmas and Lent we shoot indoors at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre at West Cambridge and at the Elizabeth Way Rifle Range, the entrance to which is on the Cutter Ferry Path. Directions to both of these venues can be found from the interactive maps below. The sports centre are open to all members, whilst use of the rifle range is restricted to members who have paid range fees, as detailed in the membership form. This year's sports centre sessions will run from 07/10/2016 - 02/12/2016 and 20/01/2017 - 17/03/2017.

Easter Term

In Easter term we shoot outdoors on Churchill College sports fields, situated in the grounds of the college. We use the top field near the Astronomy Department and set up beside the college chapel. Directions can be found from the interactive map below.

We have regular sessions throughout the week as listed below, where members will always be present to open up. In the event of inclement (bad) weather and the session being cancelled, an email will be sent to the outdoor shooting mailing list before 2pm that day, so please ensure you are signed up to this.

Churchill
  • Tuesdays 5pm - Dusk

Open session for all club members with coaching and assistance available for novice and beginner archers.

  • Wednesdays 4:30pm - Dusk

Open session for all club members with external coaching available some weeks by arrangement.

  • Fridays 4pm - Dusk

Open session for all club members.

  • Sundays

Most Sundays will be target days where we shoot an organised round and you can try for badges and classification scores. These will be publicised via the mailing list. If there is no target day then there will be shooting from 12:30pm onwards.

  • Other times

Shooting at any other time can be arranged with any keyholder. If you have a time that you would like to shoot, please send an email to the outdoor mailing list enquiring if anyone else would like to join or open up.

Vacation Periods

During the vacation periods shooting continues as we have a large number of postgraduate and staff members. However, sessions may no longer follow the regular schedule and are instead arranged between members by use of a vacation mailing list. If you are around Cambridge in any of the vacations and wish to shoot, you can sign up by clicking here, and searching for soc-cub-vacation.

During the outdoor vacation periods we will be using the schedule of regular sessions outlined above for Easter Term.
